We’re proud to announce that the Fast Forward Program of the Hungarian Film Fund with the partnership of Cinemira International Children’s Film Festival presents a script development workshop for children’s film for Hungarian filmmakers.

Every child deserves to be taken seriously be the films aimed for them. But how can you turn a good idea into high quality children’s entertainment? How do you tell your story in a way that isn’t just talking down to them? How do you build well-rounded characters the children can identify with? And what  makes a story aimed at young children believable and entertaining at the same time while still being deep and layered?

Mieke De Jon is a world-renowned screenwriter of film and television. Lena, the Dutch movie based on her screenplay was the opening film for 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. Her other works include Iep! which was invited to the Berlin International Film Festival and Winder In Wartime, which was on the short list for the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film in 2008. Her stories often include strong characters in strange situations, and her work in children’s film is widely enjoyed by adults as well.
