CINEMIRA International Children’s Film Festival is dedicated to children of age 4 to 14 and their families. It takes place in the heart of Budapest. The festival brings to the screen the best children’s films from around the world.
CINEMIRA is the only international film festival in Hungary that is exclusively dedicated to children’s film genre. During the three days of the festival our audience is introduced to the various cultures of the world through hundreds of films made for children.
The hourly screening blocks consist of live action, animated and documentary short films for children of ages 4-14. Several classic Hungarian children’s feature films will return to the screen in digitally restored version. The panorama section screens the most prestigious international children’s feature films, while the focus section highlights films coming from the member countries of the Visegrad Group.
CINEMIRA is highly involved in reviving the children’s film genre in Hungary, for this reason the festival offers programmes for professional filmmakers. In 2019 with the association of the Hungarian National Film Institute’s Fast Forward Programme we organised the first international children’s film screenwriting workshop.
In 2020 we continue on with the Writers+Filmmakers Meet-up event, where the authors of the most acclaimed Hungarian children’s books can present their stories to film industry professionals.
In 2020 CINEMIRA will launch the first Children’s film Pitch Forum, where Hungarian filmmakers can pitch their latest children’s tv and film projects to the professional jury, television buyers and film producers. The winning projects are granted funding for development.
The festival offers many interactive programmes: the whole family can participate in the movie making, animation, casting, movie make-up and stunt workshops.
